Abstract
In the context of educational digitalization, ensuring effective development of
foreign language communicative competence for modern intercultural and virtual communication
has become increasingly important. This study examines how digital tools,
when combined with teacher expertise, influence the teaching of English and German
in higher education. Using a comparative experiment and quantitative analysis based on
CEFR criteria, the research shows significant improvement in the experimental group that
used virtual reality, telecollaboration, adaptive platforms, and multimodal tasks. Interactive
communication increased by 29.7%, speaking by 20%, and listening by 20.1%, indicating
greater confidence and intercultural competence. The findings confirm the effectiveness
of an integrated digital approach when supported by teachers’ methodological
flexibility and digital literacy. Practically, the study offers strategies for blended learning,
enhanced student motivation, and teacher professional development. The results can
inform updates to educational programs, strengthen intercultural components, and support
innovative foreign-language teaching models in higher education.
